About the Championship
The 1st CISM World Military Sitting Volleyball Championship is the inaugural edition of a world-level military competition in this Paralympic discipline. It celebrates inclusion, the empowerment of disabled service members, and the friendship that unites armed forces beyond competition.
Brazil is a natural host. Curitiba has staged international sitting volleyball competitions in recent years, and Brazilian military athletes have achieved repeated success in the discipline. Building on that tradition, the Championship runs from 9 to 18 November 2026 at the Sesc da Esquina in central Curitiba, with competition taking place from 11 to 16 November.
The event is hosted by the Comissão Desportiva Militar do Brasil (CDMB) under the auspices of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM).
Friendship through Sport
Founded on 18 February 1948 in Nice, France, the Conseil International du Sport Militaire is one of the largest multidisciplinary sports organisations in the world. CISM brings together the armed forces of 141 member nations, including Brazil, and represents one of the broadest ranges of sporting disciplines of any global sports body.
Each year CISM organises more than twenty World Military Championships across a wide range of sports, alongside continental and regional competitions and — every four years — the CISM Military World Games, in Summer and Winter editions. All of its activity rests on two enduring pillars: sport and solidarity.
The CISM motto, Friendship through Sport, expresses its core mission: to build friendship and mutual understanding among the armed forces of the world, and to contribute to peace through sport. The growth of parasport within CISM reflects a commitment to inclusion and to honouring the service and resilience of wounded, injured and disabled service members.
A first edition
This is a championship being run for the first time, and some of its detail is still being settled by the Organising Committee. Where a figure has not yet been published — a squad list, a start time, the seeding — this site says so plainly rather than leaving a blank.
What is settled: the host city, the venue, the dates, the competition format, and the first nations to confirm their entry.
